The Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) of Nehalem Bay recently certified a new group for its membership. The CERT concept was developed back in 1985 by the City of Los Angeles Fire Department when they recognized that oft times local citizens are on their own during the initial stages of a catastrophic disaster. This reality has been made even more significant in recent years, especially after 9/11.
The citizens of Manzanita, Nehalem, and Wheeler, being well aware of the potential for emergencies in their area, have stepped forward wanting to learn how best to help.

The CERT training involves a full weekend with the final exercise a week later.
Congratulations to this new group who stand ready and able to serve.
