***Cancelled*** Jenny Carver, local Red Cross representative, will be at Nehalem Bay Fire Station 13 at 4 pm on Tuesday, January 10, 2017, to teach a Disaster Action Team (DAT) Workshop. This workshop trains volunteers to respond locally to assist people affected by disasters such as home fires.  The workshop would be of benefit to all CERT members whether or not they wish to become full ARC volunteers.  You do not need to be an ARC volunteer to participate in this workshop.

ARC volunteer status is required if you do wish to help beyond the local level.

The Workshop training takes about an hour to an hour and a half, giving enough of an overview of the program for volunteers to start going out on fire calls alongside the fire department to single-family or multi-family fire or weather-related disasters.

Disaster Action Team members are dispatched to local fires to provide Red Cross support to families whose homes have been burned or destroyed by  some type of disaster.  Red Cross DAT members will be trained to respond to these emergency situations and learn to provide housing and immediate support for displaced people.  At present, because of limited trained Red Cross members in the Nehalem Bay Area, the DAT members have been called to respond to disasters as far north as Astoria and or as far south as Tillamook.
