Twice each year the Amateur Radio Emergency Service (ARES) plans a disaster exercise, a Simulated Emergency Test (SET). Each SET provides ham radio operators a chance to hone their skills providing backup communications to local public services agencies. This year’s fall exercise occurs on November 6th from 9 am to 1 pm.
For the first time, EVCNB hams plan to take part in the exercise by exploring and training on equipment put in place thanks to grants obtained from the Department of Homeland Securities. Using radio links they will be passing email-like messages to Oregon’s Office of Emergency Management.
